Magic tree house 2 : The Knight at Dawn – Chapter 10

1️⃣ Summary
I’ve finished Magic Tree House #2. The streetlights lit the quiet street, and there was a light on in their upstairs window. Jack and Annie scooted down the ladder after placing the castle book with the other books. Then they went into their room. Jack felt around in his bag for a pencil, but he grabbed something else—it was a leather bookmark. He noticed that it also had a fancy “M” on it. It was the same “M” as the one on the gold medallion. Jack started to write down this new fact, but before he could write it, he fell asleep, dreaming about the knight.

2️⃣ Sentence Practice

1. That was close.

2. There was a light on in their upstairs window.
→ The AC was on in the hotel.
→ There was a radio on in the hall.
There was a TV on in the living room
There was a computer left on in the office.

✅ 구문 차이 설명 There was a light on. vs. There was a light off.
“On”은 조명이 켜져 있는 상태를 나타내며, 이는 눈에 띄는 상태입니다.
👉 There was a light on
The light was off, All the lights were off 와 같은 문장을 더 자연스럽게 사용합니다.

우리는 보통 존재하거나 눈에 띄는 것을 말할 때 “there is/was”를 씁니다.

3. They left the woods and ran down their deserted street.
→ There was only a radio on in the deserted lab.
→ When they got all the way down the street, they could see a deserted square.

4. He led the way up the stairs and down the hall.
→ He led the tourists up the stairs into the museum.
→ All the dogs were led up the stairs and down the street into the park.

5. No sign of his mom or dad.
→ There were no signs of people.
→ The room was deserted, with no sign of life.

6. She gave Jack a smile.
→ He gave Jack a big grin.
→ He gave Jack a nod.

7. He felt around for the pencil.
→ He felt around his backpack for the pencil.
→ He felt around the room for the wallet.

구문 차이 설명
“felt around” vs “fumbled”
→ 둘 다 손으로 더듬으며 찾는다는 뜻이에요.
→ “fumbled”는 좀 더 서두르거나 서툴게 찾는 느낌을 줄 때 씁니다.
예: He fumbled for the light switch in the dark.
예: She felt around in her purse for her keys.

8. He turned to the least wet page in his notebook.
→ That was his least favorite drink.
→ This room is the least dirty.

3️⃣ Short Story

Pieces of a wine glass were scattered around.

✏️ Today's Reflection
I’ve finished Magic Tree House #2. It was really good to see how to use words well. But it’s a bit of a bummer that I’ve already forgotten some of it. Maybe I need to do some reviews. I’m not very familiar with reviewing, but to avoid losing all my efforts, I need to try.
