Jack and Annie ran away to the storeroom. Jack looked up the book about the storeroom and found that there was a trapdoor leading to the precipice. They found the trapdoor, opened it, and went through the tunnel. But the flashlight grew dimmer and eventually died. At the end of the tunnel, Jack opened the latch and found a precipice. He stuck his head out of the window and clung to the ledge, but he couldn’t feel the ground. Annie tried to reach for him, but she couldn’t—and then Jack fell into the darkness.

🌄 절벽 : Precipice와 Cliff의 차이

📌 Cliff란?

Cliff는 일반적으로 높고 가파른 바위 절벽을 말할 때 사용됩니다. 일상적인 상황, 지리적 설명에 널리 쓰이며 바다나 산에 있는 절벽에 자주 등장합니다.

We stood on the cliff and watched the waves crash below.  
The house was built near the edge of a steep cliff.  

📌 Precipice란?

Precipice는 아주 가파르고 위험한 절벽을 뜻합니다. 좀 더 문학적이거나 비유적인 느낌을 주며, 심리적 혹은 상황적인 "벼랑 끝"을 표현할 때도 자주 쓰입니다.

The hiker almost fell off the narrow precipice.  
Humanity stands on the precipice of a climate crisis.  

🏰 "Castle precipice" = 낭떠러지 끝에 지어진 성
절벽 위에 세워진 성을 뜻합니다. 
이 표현은 웅장하고 극적인 분위기를 자아내며, 종종 판타지 이야기나 역사적 묘사에서 등장합니다.

3️⃣ Short Story
Ethan hadn’t been hanging far above the floor when the security guard came back. But the guard pulled the trash bin close, started vomiting, and then tore out through the door to the toilet.
Ethan seized the opportunity and rushed back to the computer. He positioned his hands on the desk and worked his fingers across the keyboard, keeping his body low and parallel to the floor to avoid triggering any motion sensors.
Meanwhile, in the air vent above, two team members were carefully controlling the rope that had lowered Ethan into the secure room. Their hands were sore from the friction as they gripped the rope tightly.

✏️ Today's Reflection
Today it was a little hard to make a story with these sentences. I think I need to reuse some of the sentences I’ve made before.
The thing is, I don’t remember the phrases I’ve practiced. Maybe I should make a list of the phrases I need to be familiar with. I’ll make those lists tomorrow.
