Magic Tree House: Mummies in the Morning – Chapter 6
1️⃣ Summary
Jack and Annie started to describe the four things carved on the wall.
The first thing looked like stairs, and it was stairs.
The second thing looked like something that could hold flowers or water—it was a jug.
The third one had a long rectangle at the bottom and three squiggly lines on top—it was a boat.
The last one looked like a drooping pole, but Queen Hutepi said it meant cloth.
Jack and Annie asked what these hieroglyphs meant, so Queen Hutepi led them to her burial chambers to explain.

- hang on: something is attached or suspended from a surface.
e.g. The picture hangs on the wall. - hang over: something drapes across or extends beyond.
e.g. A towel hangs over the chair.
💡 빨랫줄(clothesline)에는 둘 다 사용 가능하지만 의미가 조금 다릅니다.
- hang on a clothesline → 빨랫줄에 옷이 걸려 있음 (기본적인 표현)
- hang over a clothesline → 빨랫줄을 덮고 늘어진 느낌 (시각적으로 묘사할 때)
She pointed at each picture.

3️⃣ Short Story
When you travel to the Mediterranean, you can see many houses with clothes hanging over clotheslines. Especially in Italy, many homes have laundry hanging outside.
It looks beautiful because it blends perfectly with the charm of the houses.
I always took photos whenever I passed by laundry hanging on the line.
It might seem like a small thing, but it feels nostalgic and reminds me of a warm, timeless way of life.
✏️ Today's Reflection
Today, there weren’t many expressions to practice. I think Book 3 was written with easy vocabulary and repeated phrases, just like Books 1 and 2. So tonight, I’m going to take a break and enjoy my Friday night. I really need some rest to get my condition back.
